"Bailey has
both characters and readers twisting on the spit of
morality: What is good? What is evil? Bailey's vision is
absolutely compelling." —Marilyn Bowering, author of

Takes to Be Human
The Good
Lie is a
psychologically complex, literary thriller that moves from
the ocean surrounding Victoria, into the hearts and souls
of the characters who struggle to adapt to an utterly
senseless accident.
As Paul Wakefield paddles his kayak across Mouat Channel
off Vancouver Island, he hears the engine of a yacht as it
cuts through the fog toward him. In an instant, the cruiser
swamps Paul and the young girl paddling beside him, then
disappears into the fog, never to be seen again. Dumped
into the winter ocean, the terrified girl thrashes in the
ice-cold water, submerging Paul in her frenzy to survive.
In an attempt to save them both, Paul must make a snap
decision that unleashes an unpredictable series of events
culminating in fear and violence.
